Meditation for November 2nd
America Needs Losers
America loves winning. Nothing makes us prouder than the time we won two, not just one, world wars. Winning is everything. This is why teams like the Yankees, any team with LeBron James, and the New England Patriots are so beloved.
But with those winners, we need losers. We need a team, a group of people, or an ideal to lose.
If the Chicago Cubs win, America loses the Loser.
America loves it when a team beats another team by a lot. It’s hard to watch a team eek by by one point.
Let’s not even pay attention to the ability to tie another team.
If there are no losers, then people expect to win. They expect to win without hard work. They expect to be handed the win.
When there is a chance of losing, there is the fear that you won’t win. There is more to lose by trying.
The Chicago Cubs’ winning will give people the idea that they can have anything they want. People in America are already fucking entitled, so the Cubs winning will give that entitlement a golden parachute to land in any situation and demand things.
I watch the hopeful Cub fans saying, “I deserve this. My team ought to win. A team can’t keep losing, can they?”
When Cleveland came back and all the Chicago fans were looking at their feet or at their arms behind their heads, eyes wide in disbelief as the rain fell on their shitty, shattered dreams.
Let’s talk about the city of Chicago. It is a Midwest city that pretends to be a huge Eastern metropolis. Hillbillies pretending to be sophisticated and cultured. Terrible. This town needs to be for losers.
Communism was a system of all winners and no losers, and it failed because someone wanted to be a winner, and to be a winner, you need a loser.
America began with England losing.
America will end if there are no more losers.
There is one out in the top of the 10th inning, and the Cubbies are leading 8 to 6. America is about to lose Her greatest losers.
