On January 11, 2016, I began a daily practice of writing a joke meditation of the day, called Cracked Pot Meditations. I was still recovering from the treatment of cancer, and I was having very challenging cognitive issues, so I chose just to put something simple and easy to write every day. Posting it to the blog allowed me to hold myself accountable. Some of those meditations were poorly written and unedited. I have gone back and begun editing these and adding an illustration, starting with the April 27th meditation. I hope you enjoy.

Meditation for July 21st

An Open Letter

Careful. I’m about to write this letter to someone I don’t know. It’s probably someone famous or a group of people, and you probably don’t like them either. You are very excited to read this letter because it is about time someone wrote a letter to this person or people. Something has to be said.

This letter addresses an injustice. We can’t take it anymore. What is happening is wrong, unethical, and immoral. Stop. What is going on is a curse on humankind. This behavior needs to stop!

Now I jab at the personality of the person or group of people. I try to make you feel emotionally charged and have your feelings for these people vindicated. This letter is intended to be shared on your social media wall so that others will know that you, too, are opposed to this person. This person is like Hitler. This group of people is like the Nazis.

Here are all the things that these people are doing wrong. They are putting people into slavery. They are buying themselves out of trouble. They are unequal, and it is unfair. They are racist, sexist, transphobic, and homophobic. Did you know that they believe in something quite so alarming? They do! They are using religion to cosign their terrible beliefs. That’s not the real Jesus. The real Jesus would hate this person, not the person they hate. The real Jesus would have been tortured, beaten, crucified, and buried alive by this person I’m writing this open letter about.

Now I’ll say some humanistic things to the person or people who won’t ever read this letter. Listen to your conscience. See that you can do better and be helpful to people. Drop the cultural identity you’ve had your entire life and accept my culture. That easy. Hear me. It’s not your fault.

It’s not your fault.

It’s not your fault.

It’s not your fault.

(on the off chance that they did read this letter, they would break out in tears, and immediately change their evil ways)

I write to remind the ignorant of my existence. (I’m actually writing the letter to remind people who agree with me of my existence) This letter is a resistance. I am writing this letter to remind them that there are consequences for their actions. What they do is hurting their own legacy and the legacy of America, pop music, or the sanctity of pooping. Please think before you speak, I will exclaim!

I’ll conclude with a brief note on how this person and I share similarities. We both like baseball/Dungeons and Dragons/genocide. We would be friends in a different world. We could have coffee and talk about things. We could learn from each other.

Signed,

Me

Now, share this so that others will share it, and we can all share the same opinion. This way, anyone this letter might affect won’t see it, and therefore, nothing changes. Good job, Internet.
