When you are in charge of a giant media empire like David Everett Fisher Dot Come, and the year comes to an end, one must write a review of the year.

2018 was a hellish fucking shit fuck with a shiny sliver of gold in the middle. The world was a bag of shit on fire on a blind old man’s front porch. Now in my privileged not-so-humble opinion, the world has either not changed and people have just been blind to it until the very loud internet alerted them to something they have neatly and conveniently evaded, or it has actually gotten better, but since the internet screams at us with what’s wrong with the world all the time and people have a hard time thinking that it could have ever been better before. Either way, 2018 scorched across the privacy stealing social media sites like a pig on fire heading for a porta-potty.

On top of the world falling into the toilet at some punk squat that isn’t hooked up to any water supply, I got cancer again. Luckily it was caught early and the treatment was many lighter and easier to handle. It still fucked my head up and took a tax on my physical health. I had to work part time while having to pay high medical bills. I hope and pray that I can have some time before my next cancer relapse.

Even in shit storms good things can happen. It is easy to dwell on all things negative. It is easy to give up on thinking that one can deserve a good life. All some of us want is to be the extra eating at the large table at the end of a food show.

Nicole and I went to Paris and Amsterdam. We both had never been to either city before, and Nicole had never left the country before. We liked Paris a lot. We got to spend it with some friends. We both loved Amsterdam more. We loved the culture and people, along with the canals and architecture. We would move there if we could.

The day we got back from Europe, Nicole and I discussed getting married and decided to go ahead and do it. I never thought I’d find a person that I wanted to build a family and home with. We already have the dog, Rufus. Nicole is that person. She is the person that when we fight, we really fight, but also is someone that I want to fight for. We are at home with each other. It is a very real love, it is full of possibilities and work.

Nicole’s family is great and it has been awesome getting to know her siblings. I’ve never had a sister before, and I get to have another brother!

I helped start a podcast about baseball this year. We have recorded 24 episodes of Rabble Rabble Cheeseburger Baseball Podcast already. I am looking forward to growing our listenership and brand. It has been fun and challenging to learn about the very fickle habits of baseball fans and podcast listeners, but building the podcast from the ground up has been rewarding.

I started a comic. I kept drawing over the years and deciding that it wasn’t good enough to show to people, but I finally got over myself. It is a western about a gay Yosemite Sam and his cross dressing Norwegian lover looking for immortality. I look forward to putting out issue two in January.

2019 has really no promise to being any better in the realm of the world, but I will be married to a beautiful and amazing woman, and we will be in Italy for our honeymoon. Rufus will continue to be cute.
