Meditation for April 3rd

Cleanse

Spring is when nature starts over after a nice cleanse. The leaves start growing back, flowers emerge from shoots that come up through the muddy soil, and the birds start returning. As with nature, we should also do a good cleansing. Get rid of old things and old ways, and start looking at starting new things and new ways. 

It’s too bad that no matter how many times you give yourself a good cleanse, you are still the same asshole you were before your cleanse. You can pretend all you want that you are making fresh starts, but you will be the same, minus whatever you decided to quit. This is important to remember when you are having a conflict with someone; we can’t wait around for them to change, because the odds are, they won’t.

It wasn’t the smoking or the meat eating that was making you an asshole; it was the fact that you were born an asshole. You can clean and reorganize your bedroom all you want, but it won’t make you cool. Feng Shui isn’t going to change your personality. It isn’t that you need to fast from all the chemicals and bad food you put into your system; it’s that you have bad genetics.

When people try to do things like fast, detox, or move furniture around, they are just saying they are not happy with the way things are now. They want to change things to fit their needs. These are all quick fixes for complex problems, so they won’t work. If we have a bad character defect, we can’t just keep it; it needs to be replaced. You think you can do the opposite of something after doing it the same way for decades? You think adding more potted plants to your living room will fix that? It won’t.

So smudge your house, cut meat out of your diet for good, wear a crystal, quit smoking, or perform several other new beginning rituals, you won’t actually change who you are. As one of the gods said, “I am that I am”.

Prayer

Saint Zita, 

I don’t feel satisfied with my life right now. 

I’m bored. 

I’m bored with the people in my life,

The job I have,

The place I live. 

I’m just bored. 

I need to start over. 

I’m gonna do a three-week lemon-and-hot-water mix.

After I was in the spa for a week, you know, to recover and stuff. 

I’m going to get rid of all my clothes,

And update my wardrobe. 

After all this, it’ll be like I’m a new person. 

I won’t be bored so easily anymore. 

I’ll be a new, excited person. 

Reinvested in my circle of friends. 

Rejuvenated for work. 

And excited for my living space. 

Amen. 

Craft

Here are some cleansing rituals. 

Strip down naked and wrap yourself in plastic wrap for 24 hours. New person!

Only eat Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower for one month. 

Only wear white. 

Quit something. 

Start something new. 

Switch to a new therapist who does a different modality. 

Switch 12-step programs. 

Light a bunch of candles, put on Miles Davis, and take a bath. 

Sleep for 72 hours with the help of drugs. 

Baptize yourself in every body of water you see. 

Burn a hole in your skin. 

Bathe in the blood of your ancestors. 

Goal 

No matter what rituals you put into your daily life, you will just be you at the end of the day.
